Noticing Weight Loss on Atkins

Amy made an excellent comment: â??Hello, I have been keeping up with the board and have posted a couple of times. I have a question hope you can answer. How long on the Atkins before people started noticing. I have been on 3 1/2 weeks – feel great â?? going great. I know that no diet will work unless you stick to it. I am doing total carbs – by the book. I am hoping one morning I will wake up and have lost 10lbs. I feel it – I can’t see it.â?

 

Hey Amy, you brought up an excellent concern. Not many people are happy with what they see in the mirror even though they have lost substantial weight. I commend you on keeping with the diet even though you havenâ??t noticed anything, but dieting is different for everyone. Whether you try to lose weight with the Atkins Diet or any other diet, including the Hoodia Diet I wrote about a few days ago, you may not lose substantial weight right away.

For some people, losing weight is a life long progression and for others, they may lose 10 pounds in a week. Remember that when you diet, not only must you get rid of the body fat, but you may also lose water weight. In fact, in the beginning, up to 70% of the weight people lose is water weight. Also, if you are exercising then water retention goes up a little to help build the muscle mass. So losing weight is a catch 22 type game.

Fat is also stored in the muscle tissue and around the tissue. When losing weight, you mainly lose weight in the fat around the tissue before the weight in the muscle, which isnâ??t that noticeable. And because your muscle makes up for a good portion of your size, sometimes you never notice when you gain or lose 5 pounds here and there.

Just because you canâ??t see the weight that youâ??ve lost, doesnâ??t entirely mean you havenâ??t lost it. Maybe other people have noticed it themselves. Humans have a problem with perception, or mis-perception and it goes as far as a chronic illness at times. Point is, donâ??t worry that you havenâ??t see the weight disappear because Iâ??m sure all that youâ??re doing is paying off.

    My hubby and I started doing the Atkins diet together (it is just too hard trying to do it by yourself). We both lost a lot in the beginning (him 15kg, myself 8kg – not because I cheated, because I didn’t, but because everyone is different). I cannot really see the change in the mirror, but boy, my clothes! I can again fit into pants I’ve written off long ago. I’ve still got a bit of weight to loose, and it’s going slowly now, but I’m convinced I’ll get there. We also started walking/jogging on the treadmill – I get the evening session, and he gets the early morning one. A bit difficult to get a lot of low-carb products in South Africa, and when you’re lucky, they do come at a price, but it is worth it.

    Hello , this is my second time around. The first time I lost 62 lbs in six weeks and went for a 40 waist to a 30 waist. I felt great I went from 236 lbs to 174 lbs. and remained fit for two years. Then i got careless and went back up. But now i’ve noticed that since i’ve lost 20 lbs so far since March 9th down to 214 lbs i look much thinner and feel great…

    Hey Amy, you may not be able to see your progress in the mirror, but your 10lbs will probrably show up in your cloths. I’ve been told that for every 10lbs you lose you go down a size. Take measurements of yourself and you will see the differents. The mirror may not always be your friend. Also before and after pictures help aswell. The first 10lbs may not be seen but if you feel good then your on the right track.
