Phase Two: OWL

Hello again. Congratulations to those who have survived Induction and for those who havenâ??t begun see my post in the Induction Category. I thought Iâ??d continue on and share with you phase two of the four phased Atkins Diet plan. Phase two is known as Ongoing Weight Loss or OWL. During this phase, you can add a lot of foods such as more veggies, nuts, seeds, berries and such similar items. But, keep in mind, that you wonâ??t lose weight as quickly because you are adding more carbohydrates to your diet.

The most key element to the Atkins Diet is carb counting.
What makes this stage important is that you must discover how many carbs you can consume a day and still continue to lose weight. This is known as your CCLL or Critical Carbohydrate Level for Losing. The easiest way to calculate your CCLL is to eat an extra 5 grams of carbs per week until you stop losing weight. Once you have found your CCLL you are nearing the end of this phase because you only have another ten pounds or so to lose.

CCLL varies for every person because everyoneâ??s body is different and keep in mind, the CCLL allows for you to make your own personalized diet. Everything depends on your metabolism. If you are younger you may be able to consume three times as many grams of carbs then would an individual with a high metabolic resistance.

To help you, Dr. Atkins has many items in his books that you may eat that are 5 grams exactly. This information helps make it easier for you to keep on track with your CCLL. Just remember, during this phase weight loss will slow down but to keep successfully losing weight, you must find your CCLL.
Good luck!
